Description: – A very fine quality Coalport porcelain ‘Adelaide’ shape cup & saucer. The cobalt blue ground has ornate gilt reserves filled with bouquets of summer flowers painted by Cecil Jones. Furthermore, it is adorned with sprays of flowers in tooled thick gilt paste.
Size: – The saucer is 15cm across, the tea cup is 6.5cm tall to the tip of the handle & 10.5cm across the rim. The weight is 325g in total.
Condition: – Micro crazing (typical of this period of Coalport porcelain) seen on both the cup and the saucer. The body is free of damage, restoration, cracks, chips or losses. The tooled flowers in thick gilt paste are in great condition. Try slight discolouration to white porcelain.
History & Marks: – Cecil Jones was born in Shropshire in 1799. See Godden, Coalport & Coalbrookdale Porcelains 1981; pp 132 for highlighting that Cecil Jones painted this cup and saucer.
